Same team, new name.
Ballast Point Financial Planning is now Tessara Wealth.
Today, January 30th, 2026, I am thrilled to announce that we are rebranding Ballast Point Financial Planning as Tessara Wealth.
Since the founding of Ballast Point in May of 2016, our mission has always been to use personal finance as a tool for empowerment by aligning our clients' money with their values. Over the last 9 years, we have worked with over 350 families, and what we’ve found is that we love working with high-achieving women and their families. Not only have they been great clients, but we are uniquely positioned to serve them with excellence.
As we approach a firm milestone - 10 years in business, our team took some time to reflect on where we want to go from here. We looked at all the clients we have served and identified the ones we especially love working with. Some common traits bubbled up to the surface. They have a positive outlook on life, are driven, are time-constrained, and appreciate our help in reducing their financial mental load. They see the value in working with a professional in a collaborative manner as they navigate their lives. Upon digging deeper, we also saw that many of these client families included high-achieving women as part of the client relationship.
Supporting high-achieving women is built into the fabric of our firm. When we looked at all of our team members, all of us were either in a relationship with the female breadwinner of our family or were the female breadwinner.
I care deeply about creating workplaces where women are supported and heard. I even took a step back in my career multiple times so that my wife could advance her career. I find it unacceptable that women now attain higher levels of education than men, yet are still paid only 81 - 83 cents for every dollar earned by men in comparable positions. And, as a father of a beautiful 4-year-old daughter, I am even more driven to create a more equal and just world for her to thrive in. I’m constantly thinking about the world she’s growing up in and the systems she’ll have to navigate. That perspective has deepened my commitment to helping create workplaces and communities where women are respected, supported, and given opportunities to lead.
Thus, it is my pleasure to announce Tessara Wealth and our focus on serving high-achieving women and their families.
What if I am an existing client of Ballast Point?
We want to make it clear that this is an “And” transition. We will continue to serve existing clients with the high level of care and expertise you’ve come to expect. You will still work with your same lead planner and will continue to receive financial planning, investment management, and tax planning services all under one roof. We will work with you “AND” we are identifying high-achieving women as our target market. Plus, as a bonus, we are rolling out even more services that will benefit everyone at Tessara Wealth.
Why the name Tessara?
Tessara, pronounced “Tess - are - uh”, are the small tiles used to make mosaics. Since I was young, I have always been fascinated by this type of artwork. Not only with tiles, but also with small pieces of glass, pieces of metal, or even putting together pictures, I love the idea of taking small pieces of things and making them into a larger, beautiful piece of art. We will help you put all the different pieces of your finances together to create and live a wonderful life.
What will you do differently to support high-achieving women?
In serving our clients over the last 9 years, we have learned that high-achieving women have specific needs. Many not only carry the load financially for their families, but they also pay a hidden tax from an increased mental load due to running the household. No matter what you put on your school or daycare forms for the primary parent, mom is always the first call when your child is sick. We wish things were 50/50, but that hasn’t been our experience. To help address this, we are going to expand our offerings in the following areas:
We want to make sure our clients are paid what they are worth. We will help our clients advocate for themselves with their job offers, during annual performance reviews, and in the event of a job loss or severance.
Many of our clients work in tech and are afraid of changing careers. While tech may be lucrative financially, it isn’t what makes our clients’ hearts sing. We will help clients create pathways out of tech into careers that bring them joy.
We will help our clients optimize their time. We will share best practices for outsourcing to buy more time back. Even if clients can afford to bring in help, there is guilt they have to deal with because of societal expectations to do it all.
We will help our clients navigate the role of being the primary caregiver for their family. Not only for their children, but we have found that our female clients are also the primary caregivers for their aging parents.
Why are you making the change now?
After being in business for almost 10 years and working with over 350 households, it was time to think about the future of our business, decide on who we want to serve, and think about who we want to be. I have always loved working with smart, kick ass, successful women. Many of our clients have worked hard to set themselves up for professional success, but along the way, nobody ever taught them the skills of personal finance. Many feel embarrassed that they don’t have this knowledge. We are judgment-free and meet them where they are.
We wanted to take what we were already doing well and highlight that to the public.
Why change the name from Ballast Point Financial Planning?
Picking a name for a firm is hard. That was something I struggled with when launching back in 2016. While I like the concept of ballast, which means stability, I wanted something more unique. Ballast Point is the name of a brewery in San Diego, the city in which I grew up. While I do love the brewery and San Diego, I have been alcohol-free for over 5 years and am ready to change the name of the firm to something that more aligns with the direction we are heading.
